Guys & Gals Winter League 2007-2008 Playing Rules - Revised 9/10/07 1. This league will bowl weekly on Thursday nights at 6:00pm finishing not later than 8:15pm. Teams shall consist of four people. A bowler must be 17 years of age or older as of the first night of bowling. 2. The weekly cost of bowling will be $16.00. $9.00 will pay bowling fees and $7.00 will be put into the league's treasury. Each bowler must pay the full amount regardless of attendance. Any money owed by a bowler at the end of the season will be deducted from prize money won. A fee of $3.00 will be charged by Timber Lanes weekly for any bowler who bowls without paying the full amount. A bowler who makes prior arrangements with Phil or Kathy may have that fee waived. Please note...."making prior arrangements" means before that bowling session begins. One of us can be reached easily by telephone daily. 3. Three games will be bowled each week. Frames per turn will be 3-3-4. A bowler who arrives after a game has started may still bowl in that game provided he or she has entered the building before the 7th box has started. A bowler's full average will be used for the team's score if a bowler is late beyond the 6th box or if absent. 4. All teams will receive a handicap based on the difference between that team's average and 500. A team's score for each game will be determined by adding the four games bowled with the handicap. The team who has the highest total for any game will be awarded 2 points. If there is a tie, each team will be awarded one point. There are no points for total pinfall (the total score of all three games). 5. The league will play for points beginning with the first week. The length of each quarter will be 8 weeks for the first, 9 weeks for the second, 8 weeks for the third and 9 weeks for fourth. This will complete a full 34 week season. 6. A schedule will be posted at the beginning of the season showing which teams play each other weekly. At the end of each quarter, the team matches will be determined by a post-position schedule. This means that the team in first place will play the team in second place, and so on. If there is a dummy team that team shall be in last place for a position night. At the conclusion of each quarter a quarter champion will be determined. If there is a tie, a three game roll-off will be needed to determine the quarter champion. 7. At the end of the first half of the season, the winners of the first two quarters will play each other in a three game handicapped match to determine the first half champion. Likewise, at the end of the second half the winners of the 3rd and 4th quarters will play each other in the same manner to determine the second half champion. At the end of the season, these two teams will play each other in a three game handicapped match to determine the league champions. 8. Shortly after the season begins and the number of teams has been determined a prize list will be posted. This list will explain what each team can win. There will be two prize categories. All prize money will be distributed at the end of the season. * Individual Prizes - Prizes for highest and 2nd highest average, highest and 2nd highest three game series and highest and 2nd highest single game will be paid for each quarter. Please note, and this is very important, a bowler must have bowled at least 60% of the season (61 games) to be eligible for any individual prize money. At the beginning of each quarter, all highest three game series and single game will be reset to zero on the standings sheet. For each quarter, these two prize categories start brand new. At some point during the first quarter the league's bowlers will be divided into classes. Each class will have a prize list for individual prizes. The number and size of each class shall be determined by Timber Lanes. * Team Prizes - Prizes will be paid for each team position for each quarter. In addition, prizes will be paid for teams who win a half and for the league champions. Ties in standings (except first place) will not be rolled off but the money prizes will be divided equally. Any money that a team may owe at the end of the season will be deducted. 9. In the event there is an uneven number of teams, a dummy team will be created with an average of 400. The dummy team will receive a handicap as well but can not win any points. Teams playing a dummy team must beat the dummy team to win points just like playing a real team. 10. At least 1 person from a team must be present for that team to win points. If a team does not show up, the opposing team must bowl against the missing team's full averages. The team present can win points if they beat the missing team but the missing team can not win any points. 11. Shortly after the end of the season, the league will have an awards banquet. This will be held at a place and time to be determined and dinner will be provided. Those who can not attend will be refunded the cost of the banquet provided they have given notice prior to a commitment date. After this date, no refunds will be given. If a bowler is unable to attend, their prize money will be available at Timber Lanes shortly after the banquet date. 12. There are no league officers in this league as it is house run. Any incidents that occur that are not covered by these rules or the I.C.B.A. Candlepin rulebook will be decided by Kathy or Phil of Timber Lanes. Decisions of this nature, which are rarely needed, are made with keeping the best interests of the whole league as the main concern. 13. Even though we are all here to have fun, and the bar is part of some people's night out, please be present and ready to bowl when it is your turn. As a reminder, there is another league that bowls immediately after this league at 8:15pm and if all bowlers are present and ready to bowl when it's their turn a nice and leisurely pace will ensure a good time for all. 14. The standings for this league will be posted on the Timber Lanes web site each week. Generally updates are done within 2 or 3 days except during times of network difficulty or vacations. Every effort will be made to get the standings posted to the internet as soon as possible www.candlepin.com Timber Lanes * 460 Bedford St * Abington, MA. 02351 * www.candlepin.com
